We created the Connect Tools functionality in order to help you connect your site to Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel – and enable you to access must-know insights about your website’s performance without leaving WordPress.

Set up the connections included in this section to connect your website to different Webmaster Tools.

How to Access Connect Tools

Connect Tools are located within the SEO Configuration section of Squirrly SEO. Navigate to Squirrly SEO > Technical SEO > Connect Tools to reach the Connect Tools panel.

How to Access Connect Tools

Go to Squirrly SEO > Technical SEO > Connect Tools

In this section of Squirrly SEO, you will see the following panels:

  • Connect tools
  • Place Trackers
  • AMP
  • Webmaster Extras

Now, let’s go though the most important things you can configure here next.

Connect Tools – Google Analytics

  • To reach this section, go to Squirrly SEO > Technical SEO > Connect Tools > Connect Tools.

The first connection you can enable here is to connect to Google Analytics.

You need to connect your site to Google Analytics in order to get Traffic insights for your pages. Unless you connect Google Analytics, you won’t be able to see any insight inside the Traffic section of the Audit, for example.

We retrieve data related to how much traffic your pages get from Google Analytics, so unless you enable this connection between your website and Google Analytics, we are unable to show you traffic data.

Connect Tools – Google Search Console

  • To reach this section, go to Squirrly SEO > Technical SEO > Connect Tools > Connect Tools.

Scroll down to Google Search Console to connect to Google Search Console.

To get information about ClicksImpressions, and CTR for your pages, you need to connect your website to Google Search Console.

Make sure you’ve added your website in Google Search Console first.

Once your website is connected to Google Search Console, you will receive a confirmation message from Squirrly SEO. Close the tab and verify the connection in the plugin. The next audit you receive will include some extra tasks.

Place Trackers: Google Analytics

  • To reach this section, go to Squirrly SEO > Technical SEO > Connect Tools > Place Trackers

The connection with GA enables us to show you must-know insights related to your website’s performance, such as website traffic, page views, bounce rate, and much more.

The connection with Google Analytics can easily be enabled, as long as you already have a Google Analytics account and that account is already connected to Squirrly SEO.

If your account is already linked to Squirrly, all you have to do is click on Get GA Code and Squirrly will bring and display your Code directly into this setting from Squirrly SEO – without you having to do anything else.

So that you don’t have to leave Squirrly, find the code, then copy+paste it back inside Squirrly SEO.

Squirrly will then add the Google Tracking script for your Analytics ID.

Note that if you have multiple Google Analytics accounts created for the site for which you want to enable the connection, Squirrly will bring the most recent code. Make sure that you know which ID your account has on Google Analytics in case you have multiple GA accounts created for the site on which you use Squirrly SEO.

In case you’ve previously connected your Google Analytics account to Squirrly SEO – but your code isn’t automatically shown after clicking on Get GA Code, then it’s possible that you’ve created your propriety AFTER you connected your GA account to Squirrly.

In this case, Squirrly doesn’t have the latest information related to your GA account. This happens very rarely, but in case you encounter this situation, you can:

  • either reconnect your Google Analytics account to Squirrly (from Squirrly SEO > SEO Configuration > Connect Tools > Connect Tools )
  • go to Google Analytics, get the Analytics ID and copy/paste it into this section of Squirrly.

Leave this section blank if you don’t want Squirrly to add the Google Tracking script for your Analytics ID.

Receive GA3 & GA4 Tracking Code

As we already mentioned, Squirrly uses the Google Analytics Connection (if you’ve already made it) to bring your Code directly into this setting from Squirrly SEO.

A few important notes here:

  • If you’re using any other version of Google Analytics that is NOT Google Analytics 4, then all your GA codes will start with UA – (as shown in the previous image)
  • If you have an account created for Google Analytics 4, then Google Tag Manager enters the equation, and your code will always start with a G.

If your code starts with G, Squirrly will automatically set the Google Tracking Mode for Analytics to: Gtag.js This defines what code will be placed in your site’s header when Google Analytics Tracking is enabled.

Google Tracking Mode for Analytics: Analytics.js or Gtag.js

Facebook Pixel

  • To reach this section, go to Squirrly SEO > Technical SEO > Connect Tools > Place Trackers > Facebook Pixel.

Facebook Pixel is like Google Analytics for Facebook ads! It lets you track visitors events – such as actions that visitors take on your site – so that you can better target your ads and maximize the impact of your campaigns. You can learn more about this here >

Using Squirrly, you can easily get Facebook Pixel up and running with your WordPress site. All you have to do is add your Facebook Pixel Code to this section.

All common Visitors Events will be covered as long as you do this. (including Add to Cart and Initiate Checkout events for WooCommerce sites)

If you choose NOT to add your Facebook Pixel, Squirrly will NOT load any Facebook Pixel code on your site.

Google Search Console

  • To reach this section, go to Squirrly SEO > Technical SEO > Connect Tools > Place Trackers > Google Search Console

If you have a Google Search Console account connected, simply click on Get GSC Code button. If you DON’T have a Google Search Console account connected and need help connecting, this resource will show you how to do it.

Once you click the Get GSC Code button, the Google verification code from Google Search Console will automatically appear and the META tag containing the verification code will be added to your site.

This allows you to quickly verify your site with Google Search Console.

If the code doesn’t appear, it means that you haven’t added a website property to your Search Console account.

So it’s important to add your website to Google Search Console FIRST, and then enable this connection between your Google Search Console account and Squirrly and getting your Google verification code.

Load Tracking for Logged Users

  • To reach this section, go to Squirrly SEO > Technical SEO > Connect Tools > Place Trackers > Load Tracking for Logged Users

You can turn this option ON or OFF.

By default, this option is set to ON.

When turned on, it will load the tracking codes for logged users too.

If you have a membership site, for example, it’s best to leave this option set to ON, and see how much traffic logged users generate for your site. If you have a site that is just meant to showcase and promote your business or services, you can set this option to OFF.

(AMP) Load the AMP Support on AMP Pages

  • To reach this section, go to Squirrly SEO > Technical SEO > Connect Tools > AMP > Load the AMP Support on AMP pages

Given that tracking scripts load differently on AMP sites, this option is pretty important in terms of enabling website traffic tracking. AMP doesn’t support certain types of scripts. So it’s important to detect AMP pages and load AMP Support on those pages to ensure that scripts that load on those pages are AMP-supported.

Currently, Squirrly integrated with AMP for WP and AMP plugins. If you enable the option shown below, Squirrly will load the Accelerate Mobile Pages (AMP) support when these plugins are detected on your site.

By default this option is set to ON.

Webmaster Extras

  • To reach this section, go to Squirrly SEO > Technical SEO > Connect Tools > Webmaster Extras

Here you will see the following options:

Bing Webmaster Tools

  • To reach this section, go to Squirrly SEO > Technical SEO > Connect Tools > Webmaster Extras > Bing Webmaster Tools

A free Microsoft service, Bing Webmaster Tools lets webmasters add their sites to the Bing crawler so that they can show up in the search engine result pages.

Another benefit of adding your site to the Bing crawler is that it enables you to monitor your website’s overall presence. It’s like Google Search Console – but for the Bing search engine.

Enter your Bing meta verification code in this section.

Similar to the process for Google Search Console, Squirrly will then add the Bing META verification code to your site to verify your site with Bing and connect to Bing Webmaster Tools.

! To connect your website to Bing Webmaster Tools, you first need to add your site to Bing Webmaster Tools (requires a Microsoft account). If you do not have an account yet, then you need to create one on the Bing Webmasters site.

Baidu Webmaster Tools

  • To reach this section, go to Squirrly SEO > Technical SEO > Connect Tools > Webmaster Extras > Baidu Webmaster Tools

Recommended if you are targeting the Chinese market or receive a significant amount of visitors from China. Unless that’s the case, you can leave this section blank.

Baidu is the dominant internet search engine company in China. Its features and services are similar to those provided by Google. However, its focus is on websites that target Chinese audiences (Baidu controls most of the search market in China).

Enter your Baidu meta verification code in this section.

Squirrly will then add the Baidu META verification code to your site to verify your site with Baidu and connect to Baidu Webmaster Tools.

! If you want to add your website to Baidu, you will first need a Baidu account.

Yandex Webmaster Code

  • To reach this section, go to Squirrly SEO > Technical SEO > Connect Tools > Webmaster Extras > Yandex Webmaster Code

Recommended if you are targeting the Russian market or receive a significant amount of visitors from Russia. Unless that’s the case, consider leaving this section blank.

Yandex is the most-used search engine in Russia, and the fifth most popular worldwide

Enter your Yandex meta verification code in this section.

Squirrly will then add the Yandex META verification code to your site to verify your site with Yandex and connect to Yandex Webmaster Tools.

! To be able to connect your website to Yandex Webmaster Tools, you first need to add your site to Yandex Webmaster Tools (requires having an account with Yandex; if you don’t yet have an account, you can create one here).

Pinterest Website Validator Code

  • To reach this section, go to Squirrly SEO > Technical SEO > Connect Tools > Webmaster Extras > Pinterest Website Validator Code

Enter your Pinterest verification code in this section.

Squirrly will then add the Pinterest META tag containing the verification code to your site to verify your site on Pinterest and connect your website to your Pinterest business account.

! Please make sure that you have a Pinterest business account and that you are logged into your account. If you do not already use Pinterest, you can create a new business account.

If you have a personal Pinterest account already set up, you can create a linked business account. You’ll be able to log in to your business account with the same login info as your personal account and easily switch between both.

Norton Safe Web Code

  • To reach this section, go to Squirrly SEO > Technical SEO > Connect Tools > Webmaster Extras > Norton Safe Web Code

Enter the Norton Safe Web verification code or ID in this section to verify your site with Norton in order to have your site appear as a safe site in their database. Check out the Norton Ownership Verification Page for more details.

Important! We have only added some of the webmaster tools you see here in this section of Squirrly due to different requests from users in relevant countries. It’s NOT mandatory to fill in all the fields from this section and connect your website to all the Webmaster tools in this section.

Only set up the connections that are relevant for your site and strategy.

All Done!

Once you are happy with all the settings you’ve made in the Connect Tools section, go ahead and click on the Save Settings button and you are all done here!
