To get started with today’s recipe, you should know a little bit about the Performance Analytics feature (now a part of the Rank Checker).
This feature used to have its own panel inside Squirrly SEO. Now we’ve moved it inside the WordPress – Squirrly SEO – Google Rankings section. Access it by clicking on the “Rank Details” button, next to each keyword you’ve started tracking inside our tool.
It’s worth checking out.
However, make sure that the SERP Checker tool from Squirrly found an exact match between a keyword and its proper page.

Sometimes, when there is little data in GSC (only for GSC. Business Plan users are not affected by this), Google can’t tell Squirrly SEO what page it is (since Google doesn’t know the page). Therefore, it’s a Google Search Console problem.
Anyway, once you have a keyword you’ve targeted with a page and also that exact page, you should click on Rank Details and see the performance analytics for it.
It will show you:
- the Optimization percentage (using SEO Live Assistant)
- Social Media Shares;
- Country for which the SERP Checker verification was made;
- how many impressions and clicks that page had on Google
- the date on which the verification has been made

Start sharing your Focus Page to the social media groups and communities you’re in. We have a whole course dedicated to helping you share on social media and thus improve the social media signals aspects of your SEO. (this is already an off-page SEO tactic, though).
Start Getting Backlinks to Your Focus Page
A couple of these ideas will work in all cases. A couple of them will only work in some cases. It depends on the type of Focus Page you’ve created. You’ll have to really think about this.

2) Ping backlinks
Ping backlinks with pingoat.com << do not use for links from your site.
Everything from your site should be re-indexed using Google Search Console. But pingoat can help Google learn about new links to your focus page faster.
What is a backlink?
It’s a link from a third-party site (not owned by you) to a page from your site.
I have to say this right now: stay away from fiverr.com for this one. Also, stay away from people claiming they will get you thousands of links for a few dollars. While they WILL get you those links, for real, the links themselves have a high chance of hurting your rankings.
To build good backlinks, try the following:
- Publishing content on other websites
Get someone you know or someone you’ve interacted with through groups on Facebook or LinkedIn to let you contribute a blog post on their site. Then, in the author box of their site (or in something like a boilerplate) get them to add a link to your Focus Page. Or tell them that you want to place the link to your Focus Page yourself.
You can even link to your focus page within the article – IF it makes sense to do so.
Networking is important and it will be key to increasing the authority of your website, and especially of each of your focus pages.
- Competitor placements
Find out who links to your competitors. In most cases, it will make sense for you to ask those websites to link to your site as well. It can also help you uncover opportunities that you didn’t even know existed.
Squirrly SPY (another tool from the Squirrly company, independent of Squirrly SEO) can help you find the links of your competitors, but there are other tools on the web you can use for this.
Give away a coupon for something that can be purchased from your site or from your business.
Then, you can give the coupon to relevant bloggers or to coupon sites. Ask them to link to your Focus Page.
- Your web 2.0 profiles
You may already have profiles on a lot of sites, such as:
- general websites
- social media sites
Each of these (or most of them, anyway) offers you the possibility to add a link to your site.
The URL in the Twitter BIO, for example, is a valuable link to have to your site. However, either most people never use it OR they don’t place a link to a focus page (which is bad, in terms of missed opportunity).
Other opportunities you can leverage:
- Broken Links (contacting a webmaster to report broken links on their website and recommending pages on your site to replace those links)
- Business Listing
- Local Business Directories
- Place an infographic (or two)
- HARO (help a reporter out)
- Make a YouTube Video
- Find others covering aspects related to the Focus Page
Find people covering aspects related to your focus page. Your Focus Page could be an event, for example. You could find a platform which covers events or a big list which covers all events in London, for example. If your event is also in London, contact them to link to your page as well.
This tactic can be applied in multiple ways to multiple types of Focus Pages.
OneGeek.shop, for instance, had lots of links from people covering “Christmas decorations” and other Christmas-related ideas on their blogs. It helped boost the online store’s authority and visibility.
Do we really need to do this?
Getting backlinks is hard, but if you have a WordPress site that currently has zero backlinks, then it will be very hard to see results in 14 days.
If you already have many valuable backlinks to your site, then you can sit this one out, even though you can still find great ideas in what I’ve just written in the recipe for today.
