Your 14 Days Journey To Better Ranking – Day 1

Goal for today:

  • choose a Focus Page and analyze all the corresponding Red elements.

The page you will choose today will be the page (can be a Page, a Custom Post Type, a blog article, an e-commerce product) that you will focus on during this 14 Days Journey to Better Rankings.

By following the guidance provided throughout this journey, you will be able to improve the rankings for the Focus Page you pick today. Therefore, it should be an important page.

What is a Focus Page?

We think of focus pages as money-making pages; or pages which are of great value to you and your business.

It can be a page that already generates calls, leads, or important brand awareness.

For example, it can even be a page for one of your brand’s product. In our case, that would be “Squirrly SPY”. It’s a branded keyword, but we know that many people search to find our product presentation page for Squirrly SPY.

Remember! Just pick one page for the 14 Days Journey.

This is to ensure that you will be able to make the most out of this journey. By working on just one page, you’ll really focus on it and achieve better rankings. If you go after too many pages at once, you will see that you will quickly lose your focus.  As a result, all you can hope for is getting just “almost” and “kinda” results.

Also, don’t choose your homepage as a Focus Page. It rarely helps.

Google tries to bring PAGES from domains up in search positions – NOT the domain of the site. There are many reasons for this and not enough time to get into this topic today. (you can request info about this on the JourneyTeam community, though).

Okay, now you know all the basics you need to know to successfully complete Day 1 of your 14 Days Journey. It’s time to choose your Focus Page.

Remember! It needs to be a page that you 100% want people to find when searching on Google.

Got a page in mind that fits the description? Great!

Go to Squirrly SEO in your WordPress dashboard. Add your chosen page to Squirrly SEO’s Focus Pages section.

As soon as you do that, our system will begin analyzing over 113 ranking factors that Google takes into account to rank that page. The analysis is very complex and it takes a while. That’s why it’s crucial for the 14 Days Journey that we start with this.

Start looking at all the red elements that show up for your page. Click on each of them to receive detailed sub-tasks. Then click on each one to learn what you need to do to complete the task and improve your chance of ranking.

All the elements you will see in the Focus Pages section will help you visualize the ranking factors Google uses to determine what position you will reach.

The red elements in Focus Pages represent drawbacks; issues that are currently stopping your page from being placed higher in search engine results pages. (SERPs)

Once more data comes in about your Focus page, the system will more accurately tell you your existing chances of ranking that page.

What you need to focus on from the start is understanding all the elements Squirrly SEO shows you and what they represent. The more Red elements you manage to turn into Green, the more you improve your chances of finishing in the TOP 10 Positions in Google Search.

That’s why you should take the time and analyze them.

Great! We’ve covered the most important things for today.

  • Take time exploring the Focus Pages section to see the elements.
  • Click on those circles.
  • Read all the information that shows up.

If you do that, you’ll instantly start to feel like you are making progress.

One more thing: Write down a couple of stats you currently know about your site’s SEO performance.

Since you’ve placed your valuable page today in Squirrly’s Focus Pages section, you should write down the current “chance of ranking” score that it has.

This will help you see how you improve your results over the next 14 days.

By reading the recipes from the upcoming days, you’ll get to improve your chances of ranking. It will be good to know just how much progress you’ve made.

In the following days, you will also receive your first SEO Audit from Squirrly SEO. Make sure you write down the initial score your WP site receives as well.

Another question you should be asking is: how well does your focus page rank for your desired keyword?

Do you know the answer? Do you know what position does it have in Google search right at this moment?*

(*you should use a SERP Checker tool to find the answer to this question. Searching on Google yourself will give you biased results, because Google personalizes everything. It won’t be what your audience sees when doing their own search.)

Is the current keyword you’re using for your focus page a good one? If you don’t know the answer to this one yet, don’t worry. Tomorrow’s recipe will help you find it.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s recipe. The journey continues.

Moving forward

The following days will be about finding the best opportunities to reach a TOP 10 position in Google (a top 10 ranking).
